I have posted the following at Glory of Zion: " The Mystery of Spiritual Sensitivity (2008) – Carol A. Brown, Destiny Image. This book is well worth the effort of ploughing through its 348 pages. As a human resources and higher education scholar, I found Carol’s well researched insights powerfully informative. A suitable tool for studying the spiritual or emotional intelligences that makes for effective practice in Christian counselling.
Though not presented as a typical scholarly text, The Mystery of Spiritual Sensitivity carries comparable weight. It would make a useful reader for a postgraduate diploma course or a 2nd, 3rd year psychology major. I’d also recommend it to frontline HR professionals, HE administrators and tutorial faculty, careers counsellors and relationship advisors – as well as pastoral advisors, spouses and parents. In fact, anyone who wants to nurture healthy relationships with those around them, or simply understand themselves a little better.
Carol Brown is to be commended for her candidness and obvious courage in walking through what she has written. Her tenacity in putting together such a comprehensive work is also to be admired. Thank you, Carol."

Carol, I had to write you and let you know just what your book has meant to me. I am soon to be 45 years old and have been a natural born burden bearer all my life. I had no idea that there was a name for this, or that it was a gifting of God, or that I just wasn’t plain old weird! I had to keep stopping for reflection and awe and tears! I am so amazed that someone else would be able to articulate what I have experienced my whole life .I have never been able to put it into words that could convey what was happening to me. This book I believe God is using at this time in my life to propel me forward. Oh how I have needed this information and more than that, just the understanding of another person! God knew, however, just what I needed and when. So, I rest because His timing is perfect. |

Wow! I just ordered The Mystery of Spiritual Sensitivity as well as the latest book by Carol Brown. Then, I stumbled on this page of reviews. As I was reading the things that others had written, I found myself excited and amazed at how God has quickly led me to this resource. I was specifically touched by the entry written by June Ellis. Very Recently my Grandmother passed away. I was very close to her and admired her greatly. However after I became a spirit filled Christian, I found it very difficult to go to her house and spend time with her. This was due to me picking up on all of the family dysfunction and pain that I drew in while visiting her. I had to make visits few and far between. After her death I was feeling guilty for the distance along with experiencing bearing the burdens and feelings of a struggle that a friend of my was experiencing. I know that I have a gift of intercession but, I did not know that this phenomenon of burden bearing can go hand in hand with the intercession. I am excited and hopeful that the books I just ordered will shed light on who I am in Christ! |

My name is Christina and I was fortunate enough to be one of the editors for your book Highly Sensitive for Destiny Image publishers. I can't tell you how much your book has impacted me.
I lead a small prophetic team in my church in Chico, CA and I started bubbling with excitement as I began sharing some of the principles you teach on in your book. I encouraged everyone in my class to buy it. As I read the list of characteristics of the highly sensitive, I noticed husbands elbowing their wives, and people tearing up as they began to recognize their own gifting and felt encouraged to hear it affirmed. Those who have started reading your book are getting incredible revelation about how God has hardwired them to pick things up in the spiritual realm. Together we are all growing in our ability to recognize, steward, and release burdens to the Lord.
Recently I got frustrated with the Lord and began complaining about being highly sensitive. I told him I didn't think it was fair that I'm always feeling things and carrying burdens for other people. After reading your book, I've been trying to incorporate more discipline into my prayer life when I feelwhat's going on with others, but that day was an immature whiney day for me. He replied to my immaturity by saying: You can either pray for 15 minutes or carry this burden for 3 days. I was stunned as I began to realize how easily I have picked things up, not noticed, and carried a burden for several days that I was meant to pray through and release right away. He has been patient and gracious in teaching me how to steward this gift.
Your teaching has also given me greater clarity in my relationship with my family. I grew up feeling a lot of negative things in the atmosphere of my parent's house. Consequently, I couldn't wait to move away from home. Now, 10 years later, I have a restored relationship with my parents but I still find it difficult to return for long visits because I get worn out spiritually, emotionally, and physically. As a teenager I spent hours praying in my room by myself out of pure survival - I needed that time away from the family in order to maintain my own sanity. Your book has reminded me to return to consistent, disciplined intercession for those burdens I feel.
Thank you so much for writing the most articulate book on discernment, burden bearing, and prophetic intercession that I have ever read. Your book is the richest resource I have found on the gift of discernment and intercession. You provide practical tools to help equip people to partner with what God is doing in the earth and to help shed unnecessary spiritual baggage that we pick up throughout our days. I find myself teaching people about discernment every few days out of your teaching. EVERYONE should read this book. For those who are sensitive you have given language to help us understand ourselves and our calling. This word is not just a "now word" but rather a foundational teaching that all believers should hear. It now sits on my bookshelf along with other foundational books to my journey of faith that I continue to reference as I disciple (Benny Hinn's Good Morning Holy Spirit,Brother Lawrence's Practice of the Presence of God, Bill Johnson's When Heaven Invades Earth, etc.). The revelation you have from God on this subject is phenomenal and I just wanted to say a huge thank you! :)

Praise God these books exist. I have just always thought something was so, so wrong with me. I can't tell you what this has meant for my life! I never thought I would understand why I felt so different from everyone around me AND that difference is actually something God wants to use?!?!? WOW. And to think- there are lots of us out there! I'm not the only one that has to pray for a "bubble" before I go somewhere with lots of people or feels physically ill after being around emotional people. An answer to many tearful, desperate prayers. Thank you SO much. |
